The team at 32 Dental believes in providing education to patients about treatments during every step of the process. From the initial appointments and consultations to recovery, patients in Marietta and beyond can count on the caring and gentle dental professionals at our Kennesaw office. We believe it is important that patients understand how to care for their teeth, mouth, and gums after a procedure. For tooth extraction treatments, many patients will ask if they can drink water after the procedures. We encourage patients to drink plenty of fluids, including water. However, we recommend drinking on the opposite side of the affected area. We also provide various tips for optimal healing and recovery.
For the first 24 hours, we recommend avoiding:
- Spitting
- Sucking on candy
- Sipping through a straw
- Rinsing the mouth
- Brushing or flossing next to the socket
- Sneezing
- Coughing
- Hot, carbonated, or alcoholic drinks
- Spicy foods
If there is any bleeding, we recommend biting down on a gauze pad for 40-60 minutes and repeat with a clean gauze pad after an hour. If there is swelling, apply an ice pack to the cheek for 20 minutes and remove it for 20 minutes. After 24 hours have passed, apply moist heat to reduce swelling and rinse with warm salt water three times a day. Eat and drink on the opposite side of the mouth. After 24 hours, gently brush and floss around the area. We recommend taking any prescribed antibiotics to aid in healing and recovery.
Extractions are recommended when there is no other way to save the teeth. We ensure the utmost comfort during the procedure and answer any questions throughout the treatment process. Severely decayed or damaged teeth may need to be extracted when they cannot be saved with root canal therapy. We often recommend considering dental implants to replace the missing teeth. Dental implants can last a lifetime with excellent care and maintenance. Patients can embrace renewed confidence and restored beauty to their smiles after treatment.
