Need dentures? Kennesaw dentist can help with all the steps including teeth extractions!
By Drs. Lan Vo and Sean Breckley
he decision to get dentures is never an easy one and patients reach it for various reasons. However, one thing that remains the same for most patients who seek dentures is the need for teeth extractions. Whether you are only missing a tooth or two or are missing many teeth, you will need a dentist for extractions. At 32 Dental Practice, located in Kennesaw, GA, we strive always towards providing our patients with a comfortable, quality experience. We have guided hundreds of patients through the dentures process, helping them face the world with a beautiful smile! We offer each patient care guided by compassion, competence, and comprehensiveness. To further understand the process, we want to help you gain an understanding of what dentures are, the need for full-mouth extractions, the procedure itself, and some aftercare tips.
What dentures are:
While everyone has heard of dentures, not everyone knows exactly what dentures entail. Dentures are teeth replacements that are removable. Full dentures use an acrylic base that fits over your gums. The upper denture plate covers the roof of your mouth while the bottom denture plate is horseshoe shaped. Prior to the dentures being made in a dental laboratory, we take impressions of your mouth. The dentures are then shaped to fit your specific mouth shape. Because of the totality of the denture plates and the fact that they are modeled to replace every tooth, it creates a need to have no natural teeth left to hinder the fit of the dentures.
Every major dental decision is only made after an in-depth consultation. We help you determine the best course of action for your individual needs. Some people come to us expecting to need full-mouth extractions and are surprised when we can offer alternatives (such as root canals and crowns) s. We never recommend a course of action unless we feel it is the one best suited to you, your dental issues, your budget, and your individual goals. We believe dentistry is more than one-size-fits-all solutions.
All tooth extractions are done right here at our office. That way you can stay with the same provider from the beginning to the end of the process. We believe this enhances the comfort and quality of care you receive.
We decide during the consultation the best anesthetic solutions to use for you. We offer local anesthetics as well as nitrous oxide (also known as “laughing gas”). We use the local anesthetic to numb your teeth, jaw, and gums. During the extractions you will probably feel pressure, but no pain. We keep communication with you open during the entire process so if you feel discomfort, we can take steps to remedy it.
We will remove the remainder of teeth in your mouth, preparing your gums for dentures placement.
The best aftercare tips for extraction post-care:
For approximately half an hour after your extractions are done, we will have you bite on gauze. This aids in forming blood clots at each extraction point.
After a clot is formed, you must be very careful to not break them loose. We recommend avoiding the following for at least three days post-procedure: Drinking from a straw, drinking alcoholic beverages, brushing your gums, smoking or other tobacco products (including electronic cigarettes). These actions can cause the clot to break apart and disrupt the process of healing.
If you experience any pain after the procedure or swelling, it’s best to use an ice pack on the outside of your mouth at the location of the pain and swelling.
Be sure to take medications prescribed (such as a course of antibiotics) according to the directions given.
Drink lots of fluids!
If you have any concerns about how your mouth is healing, we are here to answer any questions you have, offer suggestions, and to guide your mouth to the next step in the denture process!

I've been seeing Dr. Breckley and Dr. Vo since they opened this practice, and I'm still a huge fan. I recently had some dental work done with them (like this morning). I've never doubted the doctors' abilities, and this experience was no exception. They are experts and are very good at their craft. I want to also mention the support staff, especially the women on the front desk. They are thorough, helpful, and so very nice. I've never experienced the follow-up and follow through at another practice as I have with them at 32 Dental. I always know what my bill will be. There are never any surprises, and that is so comforting in this day of American healthcare. :) I'll continue to refer my friends to them and patron their practice based on my experiences with them! Thanks!
