What You Can Expect When You Ignore the Signs That Show Your Tooth Requires Root Canal Therapy

Root Canal Procedure for Infected Tooth in Nerve Kennesaw GA Area
When the inner pulp of a tooth, consisting of blood vessels and nerves, becomes infected, a root canal will become necessary to save the tooth. During a root canal, the infected pulp will be removed, and the tooth will be disinfected before being sealed and (in most cases) capped with a dental crown. When a tooth that requires a root canal is left untreated, it can be the beginning of a road to declining dental health and, in some extreme cases, a threat to the patient’s well-being. If you need a root canal procedure performed on an infected tooth in the Kennesaw, Georgia, area, visit Dr. Lan Vo at 32 Dental.

The Danger of Not Treating a Tooth That Needs a Root Canal

When a tooth has become infected to the point where a root canal is necessary, the treatment should be done as soon as possible. In many cases, a tooth that requires a root canal will be painful. However, in some cases, if the nerves have already died, you may not feel any discomfort and think that the tooth no longer needs root canal therapy. An infected tooth that needs a root canal can lead to serious health complications when left untreated.

Uncomfortable Swelling

One of the first symptoms you may find yourself up against is discomfort and swelling at the gumline near the tooth. Tooth infections will normally develop at the root and in the nerve tissue of a tooth, but when left untreated, these infectious bacteria can seep into the gum line, leading to swelling, redness, and discomfort.

Loss of Bone

When an infection is left untreated and allowed to fester and spread, the infection can start to cause erosion of the bone structure surrounding the nerve of the infected tooth. The area will become quite sensitive and will likely cause pain. In some more extreme cases, the infection-causing bacteria will spread into the jawbone, leading to further bone loss and discomfort.

Loss of Tooth

When the bone which supports and holds your tooth in place continues to wear away, the tooth itself will eventually become loose and fall out. While tooth loss due to infection may start with just a single tooth, more teeth can be lost if the ongoing infection is continued to be ignored. If you have teeth that are loose or falling out due to an untreated infection, you need to reach out to your dentist immediately.

Sepsis

When an infected tooth is left untreated, the results can become extreme. The most extreme cases will result in a life-threatening condition called sepsis. Many people incorrectly think sepsis is when the blood becomes poisoned by an untreated infection. In reality, it is not infected blood but the body’s reaction to an untreated infection. Sepsis progresses incredibly quickly and could even lead to death if the infection is not addressed immediately.

As you can see, neglecting a tooth requiring a root canal can lead to severe consequences.

The long-term effects of an untreated tooth will be extensive, leading to a costly recovery process that could even threaten your life. To schedule an appointment with Dr.Vo, please call (770) 423-1132.

I've been seeing Dr. Breckley and Dr. Vo since they opened this practice, and I'm still a huge fan. I recently had some dental work done with them (like this morning). I've never doubted the doctors' abilities, and this experience was no exception. They are experts and are very good at their craft. I want to also mention the support staff, especially the women on the front desk. They are thorough, helpful, and so very nice. I've never experienced the follow-up and follow through at another practice as I have with them at 32 Dental. I always know what my bill will be. There are never any surprises, and that is so comforting in this day of American healthcare. :) I'll continue to refer my friends to them and patron their practice based on my experiences with them! Thanks!

Wow." I would definitely recommend this practice to anyone who wants both kids and adults to be taken care of at the same location!
