How root canals help patients with tooth infection

Root canals Help Patients with Tooth Infection
If you are suffering from the pain of a tooth infection, you may have been told that you will need to undergo root canal therapy. Root canals, are a common treatment for teeth that have been impacted by infection due to advanced decay or trauma. When an infected tooth is left untreated, it can cause extreme pain and eventually require extraction. Root canals are a way to save the tooth and avoid extraction.

At 32 Dental, we always look at tooth extraction as a last resort, which is why we will recommend root canal therapy to our patients. During a root canal, the damaged and infected dental pulp is removed from the tooth, but the tooth itself remains in place.

How root canals work

Root canals are performed in our office under local anesthetic. Patients who have dental anxiety may also inquire about other forms of sedation.

Once the area is completely numb, we will access the pulp chamber of the tooth, remove the infected tissue, and clean the area out. Once complete, the chamber is filled and sealed to prevent further infection. While root canals do save the structure, the remaining tooth is brittle. Because of this, a dental crown is placed over the tooth for strength and stability.

Dispelling myths

Chances are you've heard that root canals are painful, it's a common myth that many patients believe. The reality is root canals alleviate pain by removing the cause of it. After a root canal patients find relief and are no longer suffering from pain and sensitivity.

While not all root canals are avoidable, it does help to practice good oral hygiene. Daily brushing and flossing along with regular dental visits can help keep your teeth healthy. If you think you may have an infected tooth, call 770-423-1132 today.

I've been seeing Dr. Breckley and Dr. Vo since they opened this practice, and I'm still a huge fan. I recently had some dental work done with them (like this morning). I've never doubted the doctors' abilities, and this experience was no exception. They are experts and are very good at their craft. I want to also mention the support staff, especially the women on the front desk. They are thorough, helpful, and so very nice. I've never experienced the follow-up and follow through at another practice as I have with them at 32 Dental. I always know what my bill will be. There are never any surprises, and that is so comforting in this day of American healthcare. :) I'll continue to refer my friends to them and patron their practice based on my experiences with them! Thanks!

Wow." I would definitely recommend this practice to anyone who wants both kids and adults to be taken care of at the same location!
