Learn the purpose and results of root canal treatment for Kennesaw, GA area patients
By Drs. Lan Vo and Sean Breckley
The team of 32 Dental in Kennesaw, GA is pleased to offer patients ways to enhance their smiles. As issues occur, we can provide the services necessary to bring the smile back to health. Many patients appreciate the results of root canal therapy, a treatment used to avoid extracting a damaged tooth. Examples of situations that may require root canal therapy include:
Damage or injury to the natural tooth structure and dental pulp
Infection or disease of the dental pulp
Deep cavities that have reached the pulp
If any of these issues arise, it is essential that patients get the treatment they need to maintain the health of their smiles. The purpose of root canal therapy is to save the natural tooth. Without root canal therapy, many patients are faced with extraction of their tooth, which then requires the replacement of these teeth with dentures, bridges, or dental implants. The added expense of tooth replacements deter many patients from having their tooth extracted and instead choose the advantages of root canal therapy.
What is root canal therapy?
Also known as endodontic treatment, root canal therapy is a procedure that is done to remove the dental pulp from inside of the tooth. The dental pulp is resides in the tooth and includes the nerves and blood supply. Without the dental pulp in place, the tooth is essentially deadened. This also treats the patient in terms of relieving pain and discomfort.
Once the dental pulp is removed by the dentist, the inner canals of the tooth are filled to protect it from bacteria entering the tooth and causing further infection. The canals are filled with a material known as gutta percha, and then the tooth is sealed with composite resin. In most situations, patients will also benefit from the placement of a dental crown, which is a porcelain restoration that covers the exposed areas of the tooth for strength and protection. Drs. Lan Vo and Sean Breckley of 32 Dental can provide all these treatments under one roof without having to refer patients out to another provider.
The purpose and results of root canal treatment in Kennesaw, GA
Patients can save their natural tooth with root canal therapy and go about their life with their smile intact. It also avoids the need for replacements, which can be costly and require extra care, attention, and time. With root canal therapy, patients can avoid extraction and enjoy all their natural teeth for longer. It is the most desirable solution for most of our patients.
Are root canals painful?
When many patients hear of root canal therapy, they often think of pain and discomfort. Common myths have affected the way patients see certain dental procedures, and this can cause great anxiety. However, the procedure will relieve pain, not cause it. Additionally, when the procedure is being performed, patients are properly sedated and have local anesthetics at work to ensure they don’t feel a thing and are relaxed before and during their procedure. We provide after-care instructions for patients to follow to help them reduce their risk of discomfort and infection following treatment.

I've been seeing Dr. Breckley and Dr. Vo since they opened this practice, and I'm still a huge fan. I recently had some dental work done with them (like this morning). I've never doubted the doctors' abilities, and this experience was no exception. They are experts and are very good at their craft. I want to also mention the support staff, especially the women on the front desk. They are thorough, helpful, and so very nice. I've never experienced the follow-up and follow through at another practice as I have with them at 32 Dental. I always know what my bill will be. There are never any surprises, and that is so comforting in this day of American healthcare. :) I'll continue to refer my friends to them and patron their practice based on my experiences with them! Thanks!
