Learning what leads to periodontal disease in Kennesaw

With any type of problem that may occur in life, prevention is always the best defense. Being proactive about the issue of periodontal disease holds immense benefit, and we work towards that end in our Kennesaw practice. With this oral condition linked to a variety of serious health concerns, learning what may cause gum disease helps our patients take preventative measures where possible.

Women and periodontal disease

In our Kennesaw practice, we regularly assess patients for the state of gums. Women, especially, have unique needs for optimal health. Throughout the life of a woman, there will be times when extra attention to specific health concerns will be necessary, particularly times when hormones are known to experience more dramatic changes. During puberty, pregnancy and nursing, and menopause, for instance, the hormonal fluctuations will affect various tissues in the body, increasing the risk of gum disease. Even oral contraceptives, which often aim to regulate hormones in young women, can affect gum tissue. In such instances, we like to keep a close eye on the oral condition to act quickly in treating any signs of gum disease.

Diabetes and periodontal disease

When you visit our Kennesaw practice, we encourage open discussion regarding health conditions such as diabetes. This disease, which produces irregularities in blood sugar levels, may develop from either insulin deficiency, or an inability to utilize this hormone correctly. Regardless of exact cause of diabetes, this disease has a direct link to gum disease in that diabetics are more susceptible to infection. Furthermore, the presence of gum disease makes diabetes more challenging to manage. We work closely with our patients to understand any outstanding health conditions that may impact the state of the gums or teeth.

The mouth is a part of the body that is not isolated from other organs. What happens in any part of the body will have an impact on the health of interconnected systems. Taking measures to promote overall health through proper nutrition and excellent oral hygiene protects the gums, and thus the rest of the body from the harmful effects of gum disease. On the other hand, combating gum disease at any state leads to a decreased risk of other disease processes and encourages optimal health.

I've been seeing Dr. Breckley and Dr. Vo since they opened this practice, and I'm still a huge fan. I recently had some dental work done with them (like this morning). I've never doubted the doctors' abilities, and this experience was no exception. They are experts and are very good at their craft. I want to also mention the support staff, especially the women on the front desk. They are thorough, helpful, and so very nice. I've never experienced the follow-up and follow through at another practice as I have with them at 32 Dental. I always know what my bill will be. There are never any surprises, and that is so comforting in this day of American healthcare. :) I'll continue to refer my friends to them and patron their practice based on my experiences with them! Thanks!

Wow." I would definitely recommend this practice to anyone who wants both kids and adults to be taken care of at the same location!
