Gum Disease at 32 Dental Practice, Kennesaw, GA

Gum Disease treatment at 32 Dental Practice, Kennesaw, GA Three out of every four Americans have some form of gum disease. Gum disease, otherwise known as periodontal disease, is an autoimmune response to specific bacteria that are anaerobic, meaning that they do not require oxygen to survive. Gum disease starts by the loss of bone around the teeth, in which the teeth become loose because there is no supportive bone in order to hold the teeth in place. This, in turn, creates pockets between the gums and the teeth in which this anaerobic bacteria will then live and allow the disease to progress. This happens when the pockets around the teeth become approximately 5mm in depth.

This disease can be passed from site to site, person to person, so it is very important that this disease be under control, to avoid passing on and having it progress to the point where it can cause irreversible damage. This is why early treatment of gum disease can help keep more progressive problems from occurring. This and the fact that studies have shown a correlation between gum disease and cardiovascular disease, premature births, and other concerns throughout one's body.

When an individual comes into 32 Dental with gum disease, we will start by treating the disease in a non-surgical format first. We will first anesthetize the patient and numb the area in order to go in and clean these pockets out to ensure there are no bacteria left. Then we will use an antimicrobial rinse on the patient, as well as provide the patient with this rinse to take home and use twice a day.

Over a period of a few weeks with proper use, we will then see the patient again to check our progress. Our hope is that after a few weeks, the pockets between the teeth and gums have reduced to a range of 2-3mm. This will help reduce inflammation and get the patient back to a dental state in which to take control of the disease and keep it from reoccurring. When this does not work, we will then complete minor periodontal surgery, in which, we will remove some tissue and do a manual pocket reduction, in order to limit the pockets of the anaerobic bacteria that is the cause of severe gum disease.

The 3 stages of gum disease are gingivitis, periodontitis, and advanced periodontitis. Gingivitis is caused by toxins irritating the gum line as a result of plaque buildup. Signs and symptoms of gingivitis includes swelling, sensitivity, and bleeding of the gums during brushing and flossing. Gingivitis can be easily reversed through professional care and good home oral hygiene. Periodontitis is categorized by irreversible bone loss that results from untreated gingivitis. The gums may begin to form a pocket below the gum line which traps food and plaque. Dental treatment and home care can help prevent from further damage, but at this stage, the results are not reversible. Advanced periodontitis is when the fibers and bones supporting the teeth destroyed. This may cause teeth to shift or loosen. Teeth may have to be removed depending on how advanced the disease has become and if treatments are not effective. You can begin by preventing gum disease with good oral health. I’ve been coming here for several years now. Both dentists are great from fillings to general check ups and the ladies in the office take such good care of you! The one thing that keeps me coming back is my hygienist, Charmaine. She is AMAZING at her job. Seriously the improvement in my gums is all due to her hard work and commitment to stay on me about improving my habits. She physically shows you where your problems are and how to brush/floss properly without making you feel bad about yourself. I followed my old dental hygienist here and I was sad to see her leave, but I am so happy that I got Charmaine in her place.

I've been seeing Dr. Breckley and Dr. Vo since they opened this practice, and I'm still a huge fan. I recently had some dental work done with them (like this morning). I've never doubted the doctors' abilities, and this experience was no exception. They are experts and are very good at their craft. I want to also mention the support staff, especially the women on the front desk. They are thorough, helpful, and so very nice. I've never experienced the follow-up and follow through at another practice as I have with them at 32 Dental. I always know what my bill will be. There are never any surprises, and that is so comforting in this day of American healthcare. :) I'll continue to refer my friends to them and patron their practice based on my experiences with them! Thanks!

Wow." I would definitely recommend this practice to anyone who wants both kids and adults to be taken care of at the same location!
