Gum Disease at 32 Dental Practice, Kennesaw, GA

Gum Disease treatment at 32 Dental Practice, Kennesaw, GA Three out of every four Americans have some form of gum disease. Gum disease, otherwise known as periodontal disease, is an autoimmune response to specific bacteria that are anaerobic, meaning that they do not require oxygen to survive. Gum disease starts by the loss of bone around the teeth, in which the teeth become loose because there is no supportive bone in order to hold the teeth in place. This, in turn, creates pockets between the gums and the teeth in which this anaerobic bacteria will then live and allow the disease to progress. This happens when the pockets around the teeth become approximately 5mm in depth.

This disease can be passed from site to site, person to person, so it is very important that this disease be under control, to avoid passing on and having it progress to the point where it can cause irreversible damage. This is why early treatment of gum disease can help keep more progressive problems from occurring. This and the fact that studies have shown a correlation between gum disease and cardiovascular disease, premature births, and other concerns throughout one's body.

When an individual comes into 32 Dental with gum disease, we will start by treating the disease in a non-surgical format first. We will first anesthetize the patient and numb the area in order to go in and clean these pockets out to ensure there are no bacteria left. Then we will use an antimicrobial rinse on the patient, as well as provide the patient with this rinse to take home and use twice a day.

Over a period of a few weeks with proper use, we will then see the patient again to check our progress. Our hope is that after a few weeks, the pockets between the teeth and gums have reduced to a range of 2-3mm. This will help reduce inflammation and get the patient back to a dental state in which to take control of the disease and keep it from reoccurring. When this does not work, we will then complete minor periodontal surgery, in which, we will remove some tissue and do a manual pocket reduction, in order to limit the pockets of the anaerobic bacteria that is the cause of severe gum disease.

The 3 stages of gum disease are gingivitis, periodontitis, and advanced periodontitis. Gingivitis is caused by toxins irritating the gum line as a result of plaque buildup. Signs and symptoms of gingivitis includes swelling, sensitivity, and bleeding of the gums during brushing and flossing. Gingivitis can be easily reversed through professional care and good home oral hygiene. Periodontitis is categorized by irreversible bone loss that results from untreated gingivitis. The gums may begin to form a pocket below the gum line which traps food and plaque. Dental treatment and home care can help prevent from further damage, but at this stage, the results are not reversible. Advanced periodontitis is when the fibers and bones supporting the teeth destroyed. This may cause teeth to shift or loosen. Teeth may have to be removed depending on how advanced the disease has become and if treatments are not effective. You can begin by preventing gum disease with good oral health. Dr. Vo and Dr. Breckly are absolutely fantastic! Never worry about another painful trip to the dentist if you are going to see them. They make sure you are never in any pain throughout the entire procedure. I just had my wisdom teeth removed and Dr. Vo did a fabulous job, as always. I had four impacted wisdom teeth and they were out before I knew it. I was up and eating solid food the very same day, and could have been back at work if I needed to. My stitches fell out within a few days and everything healed up much faster than any of my friends who saw other doctors. I stayed awake for the procedure, and I would say that it definitely is much better than being put to sleep. It has a faster heal time and less discomfort. My face honestly didn't even swell. I've gone to Dr. Vo and Breckly for minor things before and they have always been amazing, but after my great experience with something more major, I know they are by far the two of the best dentists, I have ever seen.

Dr. Vo and Dr. Berkley are the ONLY dentists we see. Dr. Vos taken care of my parents, my husband, our daughter and son, and myself for the past 7 years. We love the care and the personal relationship she establishes with her patients. She takes the time to get to know us, our families, our dental concerns, which is NOT the usual in the business.Thank you for everything. Dr. Berkley is very attentive and gently with my children. We came in for a cleaning yesterday and they did great under his medical care. The staff is extremely professional and willing to help. Amazing team. If you have been afraid of the dentist, check them out and theyll change your mind about dentistry.

My family and I love Dr. Vo. I would suggest this practice to anyone who wants a dentist and staff that truly care about your health and will go above and beyond the typical dentist. I followed Dr. Vo from a previous office, and although this office is farther away, it is worth it because of how caring the staff is.

Dr. Vo is fantastic. She is patient, knowledgeable, and excellent at her job, and most importantly, she takes time to answer your questions and explain any concerns she has about your teeth, so you really know what\'s going on. It inspires me to take better care of my teeth. By far, she is the best dentist I have been been to, and I highly recommend her. No more of those dime-a-dozen dentists for me!
